Test an AI Prompt by Changing One Thing

If you change the subject, style, model, and settings together, you may like the result more, but you will not know which change helped. A smaller experiment is easier to understand.
Save a baseline
Choose a simple scene, such as a wooden cabin beside a lake in daylight. Describe the subject, surroundings, and lighting in plain language. Generate an image and save the exact prompt, model, and available settings with it.
If your tool exposes a seed, record it and keep it fixed for this comparison. Keep the model, sampler, resolution, and other settings unchanged too. A fixed seed alone does not guarantee identical output across different tools or workflows.
Change one visible detail
Replace daylight with evening light, leaving the rest of the description intact. Generate again. You are testing whether the changed lighting instruction is reflected in the image, not whether the second image is simply more attractive.
Place the images side by side. Check the sky, the direction of shadows, and the light on the cabin. Also note whether the subject or composition changed unexpectedly. A prompt edit can affect more than its named detail.
Decide what to try next
If the lighting changed as intended, save both versions with a short note about the difference. If it did not, try a clearer lighting description while retaining the same comparison setup.
When your tool does not let you control the seed, compare several attempts for each prompt. Treat the result as a pattern to investigate, rather than proof from one lucky image. Only after this prompt comparison should you test a separate setting, so you can still tell what you changed.
